Hayes Carll informed the audience that he and Scott Davis (accompanying Carll on the guitar) didn’t bring the entire band because “it would have been too much for y’all to handle – we’re saving it up for Sunday.”
Carll was referring to his ACL set on Sunday evening (7:30pm on the Austin Ventures stage). But he and Davis brought the goods to the Four Seasons on Friday morning, running through a number of songs from Carll’s latest release KMAG YOYO.
And as entertaining as Carll is strumming away and half-groaning through his songs, he’s equally adept at engaging the audience and telling stories between tunes. At one point during the set, he spoke incredibly dryly about landing one of his songs on a “Jazzercise” soundtrack and anxiously awaiting a check from the exercise company.
