When you ask a band to arrive on-site for a sound check at 8am (something we rarely have to do), you never know what kind of a response you’re going to get.

But the West Plains, Missouri four-piece Ha Ha Tonka proved not only up to the task on Friday morning, but genuinely happy to do it. Their style (indie-rock meets Ozark folk) was perfect for getting the day started, with four-part harmonies and mandolin taking center-stage for most of the five-song set.

The cause (which ultimately raised $7,800 for the Seton Shivers Cancer Center) was especially dear to frontman Brian Roberts, a cancer survivor himself. Roberts had a cancerous tumor removed when he was 21.

Ha Ha Tonka performed songs from their third full length, Death of a Decade, which came out in April. Take a listen to the entire set and interview with the band, or individual songs below.
