Yellow Fever became a band around 2006, but even before they officially released some music the following year, they’d already earned a loyal fan base.
Then, of course, the band doesn’t play that often. The anticipation for new Yellow Fever music is amped up because the time between new music releases is pretty spread out, but it’s always worth the wait. The end result is quality material, and the band continues to evolve beyond any sort of structured approach. They produce a minimalist psych pop that can be absolutely raw dynamite, or it weaves its way in and out with a pulsating, hypnotic drone, simultaneously aloof and alluring.
I, your humble Austin Music Minute maven Laurie Gallardo, am pleased to count Yellow Fever as one of my local faves. Check them out Thursday night at The Mohawk, 912 Red River. The bill includes performances by Austin bands World Club and Boy Friend. Doors open at 9 p.m. Recommended, peeps.
