In 2007, Wiretree wasn’t exactly a band yet. It was more of a solo venture for songwriter Kevin Peroni, who was experimenting with various folk angles on his debut self-titled EP in 2005, and his first full-length release, Bouldin, in 2007. Fans were quite taken with Peroni’s Elliot Smith-style vocals, but something else was mingling within the folk-influenced riffs – catchy pop chops that were a sign of things to come.

By 2008, Peroni had guitarist Joshua Kaplan, bassist Rachel Peroni and drummer Daniel Blanchard on board for the making of the second full-length, Luck (2009), brimming with more punchy melodies and pure pop brilliance. Peroni was having a blast with those four-chord progressions.

That paved the way for this year’s impressive release, Make Up, where once again we have shimmering, melodic pop and Peroni on top of his game delivering fantastic vocal harmonies.

Don’t miss Wiretree’s CD release show Saturday night at Skinny’s Ballroom, 115 San Jacinto. Local indie-country quintet San Saba County will be opening, so make sure you get there early, around 9 p.m., to catch the entire show. Recommended.
