For years, Allison Orr’s Forklift Danceworks has created works centered around folks whom one might not typically consider to be dancers. It’s the movement and grace of the everyday that gives Orr her inspiration, and that’s why she’s crafted dances and ballets about (and starring) roller skaters, firemen, and, with The Trash Project, sanitation workers.
First staged two years ago, The Trash Project is a mammoth undertaking; the performers dance not just with their feet, but also with their 25-ton trucks. Several different types of trucks will be part of the ballet, which Orr hopes will not only entertain but also enlighten the crowd about the often unseen job that our city’s sanitation workers perform everyday.
Graham Reynolds composed all the music for the show, and with this little behind the scenes video you’ll get a taste of what sights and sounds are in store for Austinites this weekend!
