Little Radar is an Austin-based quartet, by way of San Marcos, that I (your Austin Music Minute host, Laurie Gallardo) got to see at the Mohawk last month. This is one of those stand-out bands that may not have made a lot of waves just yet, but the music stays in your head long after you’ve seen them play.
They serve up massive, hook and riff-heavy indie rock with bits of folk and roots making their way into it, but what initially struck me was their vocal melodies. They’ve only played a handful of shows around town, but they’ve got such a solid set and such an impressive live show that chances are, they’ll be in higher demand in no time. Bet on it.
Don’t miss Little Radar at their show tonight at Skinny’s Ballroom, 115 San Jacinto Blvd. And tonight’s show looks like a case of North meets South: Two bands from Boston are on the bill, punk-inspired surf rockers The Clippers and grundged-up rock courtesy of Sneeze. Austin psych/folk outfit Cactus Peach opens the show at 9 p.m. This will be great all around. Recommended to get rid of the Monday blahs.
