Lex Land wasn’t born here, but she got here as soon as she could. (In her case, it was only a couple of years ago, but still…) Land credits her relocation to Austin from Los Angeles as a major source of her recent songwriting output.

From an early age, Lex Land was actually slated to be an opera star. She went to college for a technical approach to voice, but soon found that she enjoyed messing around on the guitar and writing straight-ahead pop tunes in her off time.

In 2008, Land recorded and released Orange Days on Lemon Street, which caught the ear of TV producers on shows like Private Practice, Castle, and One Tree Hill. She also enjoyed some love from iTunes, holding the number one spot on the distributor’s singer/songwriter chart for a number of weeks after the release of her debut.

Land is set to officially release a follow up album a week from today. You can check her out live at her CD release party at Swan Dive on Saturday night. But before you head out to the show this weekend, give a listen to album standout “If I,” which showcases Land’s subtle-yet-powerful control melody as well as her undeniable vocal prowess.
