ERCOT Urging Conservation
The record breaking heat in Texas is putting stress on the state’s electric grid. ERCOT, the electric grid operator for most of the state, is expecting to hit a new all-time peak demand record for electricity use Monday or Tuesday. ERCOT is urging everyone to conserve electricity from 3-7 p.m.
Austin Ties Hottest Temperature Ever Recorded
Austin tied its all-time record high temperature Sunday. It reached 112 degrees at Camp Mabry. The only other time that happened was in September 2000. Central Texas is under a heat advisory until nine Monday night. High temperatures are expected to be near 107 Monday.
Level Orange Ozone Watch
Central Texas is under an Ozone Watch. Ozone levels are forecast to be high Monday. The elderly, young children and people with chronic lung disease should limit outdoor activities.
Gov. Perry Preparing for National Debates
Governor Rick Perry has announced he will participate in two GOP presidential primary debates in September. The first one is September 7th at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California. The other is September 12th in Florida.
The governor didn’t debate at all against his Democratic opponent Bill White in the 2010 governor’s race. For KUT News and the Texas Tribune, Ben Philpott takes a look at how the national debates will differ from the ones Perry has participated in Texas.
