Austin’s Heat Wave is Breaking Records

Camp Mabry reached a record 107 degrees Monday. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory starting at noon today through Friday evening. The Weather Service warns too much physical activity outdoors could cause heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

The triple digit heat is bringing with it record electricity use. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas set a new record for electricity demand Monday. ERCOT is urging people to conserve energy use between the peak hours of 3 -7 p.m. Tuesday and throughout the rest of the week.

Austin’s F1 Race Date Could be Pushed Back

Speculation is mounting that Austin’s planned Formula One race could be moved from next June to November instead. Autosport.com recently reported F1 leader Bernie Ecclestone is revising the schedule because of the political climate in Bahrain and concerns about Austin’s summer heat. No official date changes have been announced.

Perry Announcement Seems Inevitable

The question now seems to be when will Governor Rick Perry announce his presidential run, not if. For KUT News and the Texas Tribune Ben Philpott has an update on today’s podcast.
