The Austin City Council will take up one item at its Thursday council meeting to address pay day loans. The resolution would require lenders to register. KUT’s Mose Buchele has more on proposed pay day lender regulations.
Calling On Old Power Plants
The state’s electric grid is reviving several old power plants. The goal is to help avoid more power emergencies amid the triple-digit heat.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas signed short-term contracts with NRG Energy and Garland Power and Light. Each company will return two mothballed natural gas-fired plants to operation through October. The units will only come online in the event of an emergency.
Donations For Leander Brush Fire Victims
A City of Leander spokeswoman says donations of clothing and household goods for the victims of Wednesday’s brush fire that damaged seven homes and destroyed 16 vehicles can be brought to Hill Country Community Ministries at 1005 Lacy Drive in Leander. She says cash donations can be sent to Austin Disaster Relief Network.
