Get Involved-Get Inspired: 9th Street Trails

August 8, 2011 12:36 pm by: Jeff Heimsath

9th Street Trails, a system of dirt bike jumps tucked away in downtown Austin, is widely known as mecca for BMX bikers worldwide. Kids of all ages congregate here to ride bikes, build jumps and have fun.

The trails got started nearly 20 years ago by a small group of BMX bikers looking for a place to ride. As the years went by, the loosely-affiliated group of bikers- better known as “The 9th Street Locals”- morphed into a more organized entity that the city is better able to deal with since the trails are on city property, Duncan Park.

The city does not provide any help with supplies or maintenance so the Locals rely on donations of time and money from people interested in preserving the landmark trail system. To learn how to get involved more with the trails visit their website or head out to 9th Street and see what the trails are all about.
