When you stop to take a look at Don Harvey‘s roster, it’s literally a who’s-who of amazing artists. Harvey has played with the best of them – which makes perfect sense because he’s an excellent musician himself.

The drummer and songwriter has performed with former faces Ian McLagan and Ronnie Lane; with Alejandro Escovedo, Charlie Sexton, Billy Bragg and Joe Ely, to name a few. These days, Harvey is composing more instrumental pieces, very open and free-flowing soundscapes inspired by a multitude of influences: blues, jazz, rock, classical, experimental and ambient sounds. Harvey will tell you himself: “Making music that conveys mood and emotion free from the confines imposed by specific genre or conventional arrangement, boiled down to the essence…that’s where I’m at.” Sounds like a fantastic place to be.

Don Harvey will play with his band A is Red tonight in the upstairs Gallery of The Continental Club, 1315 S. Congress Ave. The Bruce James Trio is also on the bill. Doors open at 8 p.m. And do not forget that Mr. Dale Watson is playing the main venue of The Continental Club, starting at 10 p.m. What a great way to get rid of the Monday blahs. Recommended.
