We’re building the new KUT Public Media Studios that will transform our service with street-level studios – and a greatly expanded Studio 1A that will become a daily destination for listeners to experience first-hand the one-of-a-kind performances that happen at KUT nearly every day.

On August 23, 2011, the Austin band Bright Light Social Hour visited the construction site during a lunch recognizing the crews safety record – and treated them to the first performance in what will be the new Studio 1A.

This first live performance in the new KUT Studio 1A was one to go down in history. The Bright Light Social Hour gave an amazing, high energy performance as they played four songs (“Shanty,” “Bare Hands, Bare Feet,” “Back and Forth” and “Detroit”) to a diverse crowd of about 100 construction workers, and a handful of folks affiliated with KUT and The University of Texas.

Located at the corner of Dean Keeton and Guadalupe streets, the KUT Public Media Studios are expected to open summer 2012.
