Janis Joplin. Roky Erikson. Doug Sahm. Stevie Ray Vaughan. Names like these helped establish Austin’s global reputation as hothouse for great musical talent. On this edition of Texas Music Matters, we’re turning the spotlight on 10 of the most highly respected artists in Austin today, the Austin Aces.
They are producers. Songwriters. Instrumentalists. Singers.
They may not have sold the most records. They may not sell out arenas. They may not be household names. And yet they are widely considered among the best at the craft. Genuine ‘musicians’ musicians’. When we asked our listeners and members of the KUT music team to help us narrow it down to 10 names, several kept coming up again and again:
