Hyde Park Theatre artistic director Ken Webster tends to prefer plays with small casts; it’s pretty common to see two or four person shows at his theater. And sometimes the cast is so small it’s just Ken himself. That’s the case with Hyde Park’s current show, The Good Thief. After staging a successful run of Conor McPherson’s St. Nicholas a couple of years ago, Webster decided to take on The Good Thief, another of the playwright’s one-man plays.

In The Good Thief, Webster plays the unnamed protagonist, a small-time, foul-mouthed Irish thug, who’s relating a the story of a recent job and its unexpected aftermath to the crowd. This is the type of character Webster loves playing: a bad but strangely sympathetic guy, someone who does awful things and somehow remains likeable to the audience.
