Lyle Lovett grew up in Klein, Texas – just outside of Houston. He eventually ended up at Texas A&M, majoring in German and Journalism. And it was in College Station that Lovett began writing songs. Sadly, outside of Texas and most singer/songwriter circles, he’s probably best known for his fleeting romance with Julia Roberts in 1993. But he’s been putting together Gold Records since the late eighties (1988′s Pontiac helped put Lovett on the map).

Over the years, Lovett has released thirteen albums and collected four Grammy Awards, including Best Male Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Album. His latest record, Natural Forces, was released a couple of years ago to great critical and commercial acclaim.

Over the past year, Lovett played some shows with another large name in the songwriting annals, John Hiatt. The two were in Austin for a couple of performances at the Paramount Theater a couple of weeks ago, before Lovett took off on a European tour.

Private Conversation” is a song that originally appeared on what is now considered a classic Lyle Lovett record, The Road to Ensenada. Lovett was kind enough to share a rare live performance of the song with KUT’s listeners in Studio 1A.
