Holiday Closures

Most City of Austin offices are closed for the 4th of July holiday today. Garbage pickup is not affected. City pools are open today. The Town Lake Animal Center is open from 11:30 am to 5 pm. They’re having an event adopting out all animals for $4 each.

Tubing Troubles

The drought is wreaking havoc on a Central Texas summer tradition: tubing. Lower water levels have added an extra two hours to what is normally a four hour tube ride. That’s an extra two hours of drinking and baking in the heat. An it’s led to an increase in rowdiness and arrests along the river.

Pies for Patriots

In times of war the public sends all sorts of things to service men and women. Letters, phone cards, toiletries, and books make their way from the home front to the frontlines. Now one Texas community is adding something else to that list: pies.
