City to Consider Costs of Postponing WTP4
The Austin City Council Thursday approved a resolution to look into how much it would cost the city to postpone construction of the rest of Water Treatment Plant 4, for five or ten years. Staff will also research how much it would cost to beef up water conservation efforts. The vote was 5-2. Mayor Lee Leffingwell and City Council Member Mike Martinez voted against the resolution. The city has already committed over $400 million to WTP4.
Update on Soldier Arrested in Killeen
Police in Killeen say they expect federal charges to be filed against a soldier they say was planning to attack military personnel at Fort Hood. Private First Class Nasser Abdo was arrested Thursday following a tip from a clerk at a Killeen gun store. KUT’s Matt Largey has details on the Newspod.
Texas Rolling Out New STAAR Exams
Texas’ Education Commissioner is releasing state accountability ratings for Texas schools Friday afternoon. The ratings are based on graduation rates, drop-out rates and scores on standardized tests.
A new standardized test will replace the TAKS exam this upcoming school year. We take a look at the STAAR exam on the pod.
