Wildfire Threat Continues

The Texas Forest Service says drought conditions and the potential for more wildfires persists across the state. 247 of the state’s 254 counties are under burn bans, including all of Central Texas. Since the Fire Season started in November, wildfires have scorched more than 3 million acres across the state.

Food Drought

The drought has also affected prices for animal feed. That’s caused many farmers to sell off their livestock prematurely. Wildlife is also not immune. The swarm of bats that amke Austin’s Ann Richards Congress Avenue Bridge their home are also being impacted.

Groups Await Tejano Monument

Groups that celebrate Tejano heritage in Austin are reporting an uptick in interest lately. One of the reasons may be a monument to Tejano culture, planned for the grounds of the Texas State Capital.
