Johnny Nicholas is one of those guys who has, for the majority of his life, always been in a band. Whether he was in Rhode Island, Chicago, California, Louisiana or even his now-hometown of Fredericksburg, Texas the guy has been playing music. He played with Austin legends Asleep at the Wheel for a stint before settling down with his wife Brenda and three sons. Nowadays, the Nicholas Family run The Hilltop Cafe where they blend their love of Cajun, Greek and Southern cuisine with Johnny’s blues background. On any given night you can catch Johnny playing his guitar in the dining room and maybe he’ll have a friend with him - Jimmy Vaughn, Marcia Ball and even Eric Clapton have been known to drop in. Over the years Johnny never stopped playing music or releasing records. His latest release Future Blues was produced by Austin artist Bruce Hughes and features cameos by Cindy Cashdollar, Joel Guzman and Jimmie Vaughan. The gang dropped by KUT’s Studio 1a to perform their latest gems. Listen HERE!
