Chances are that back in the 90′s, Follow That Bird might have been labeled a Riot Grrrl band – some reviewers have even tossed out names like Sleater Kinney in their comparisons. Fair enough. But with all due respect to their predecessors, this Austin-based trio moves beyond merely imitating a Riot Grrrl sound.

Follow That Bird, featuring front woman Lauren Green on guitar, drummer Tiffany Lanmon and bassist Paul Brinkley, invokes an incredible energy pulsating through a lo-fi delivery. It’s part indie rock, part punk rock, discordant and riff-driven, plus impressive songwriting and vocals by Green. They released a two-track seven-inch LP last month, called Wooden Bones. Looking forward to more new tracks, hopefully soon.

Don’t miss Follow That Bird when they headline Wednesday night at Antone’s, 213 W. 5th St. This is quite a tasty bill:  The Burning Hotels, One Hundred Flowers and The Soul Pilots. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the show begins at 9. Check it all out. Recommended.
