A very Happy July 4th to you from your Austin Music Minute maven, Laurie Gallardo. I hope you’ve been able to enjoy an extended holiday weekend. While you’re out and about, taking in all the Independence Day celebrations around town, I do have a recommendation for you that’s about as rock ‘n’ roll as you’re going to get.

Trophy’s Bar & Grill, a South Austin divey-dive of an institution for many local rock and punk fans, is presenting its annual 4th of July Bizarre-B-Q, guaranteed to keep Austin’s cherished weirdness on the map. It’s the perfect combination of barbecue and bands that proudly display their bizarreness, whatever there is to be had, out in the open for all to revel in.

It’s all live music, in all manner of rock, punk, progressive and experimental that will surely rattle the eardrums and rock your socks off. It would be wise to bring earplugs. Here’s the list of bands scheduled:  Muchos Backflips, Muppletone, Bee vs. Moth, Megafauna, Perfect Pants, Barry Whitesnake (great name, that), Ex Machina, and performances by comedian Kat Ramzinski.

The party starts at 4 p.m. at Trophy’s, 2008 S. Congress Ave. Relax, enjoy, and have a safe and happy Fourth. Recommended.
