What We’re Watching

Usually here at What We’re Watching we like to highlight great videos that showcase places and ideas from outside Austin, but this week we just had to share something our good friends at State of The Re:Union did when they were here working on their Austin radio documentary, Austin, Texas-Growing Pains.

State of The Re:Union, or SOTRU, was created by host Al Letson as a way to explore how a particular American city or town creates community. He wanted to better understand the ways people transcend challenging circumstances and the vital cultural narratives that give an area its uniqueness.

Naturally Austin had to be a stop along the way for Al and his crew. They visited us last year to examine how Austin’s success has left many residents worried that new development and growth might jeopardize our city’s counterculture “feel”.

While in town they also put together this wonderful short video piece on Austin’s growing trailer food movement as a kind of culinary symbol of Austin’s innovative thinking. We hope you enjoy SOTRU’s self-described love letter to Austin…it’s what we’re watching.
