For Vanessa Lively, life has been about connecting with others, and the key, the common thread throughout, is music.

Lively’s early songwriting experiences stem from her time living in South America, where music was an everyday part of life and not merely something musicians created. On her new album, Uncovering Stones, she gives voice to this universal theme with mixes of folk, pop and funk styles, and Latin and urban tempos. This is her expression of the passion she has for life and community.

A lot of planning and meticulous care went into this work. She and her husband, producer and musician Jason Lively, along with co-producer/engineer Keith Gary, recorded the album in couple’s Austin home, combing over every single detail. Even before she began writing the music, Vanessa painted an amazing 42-canvas square art piece that would serve as the album’s cover art.

Vanessa’s having her CD release show Tuesday night at the Cactus Cafe, located in the Texas Union building on the UT campus. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m. Recommended.
