Trans-Texas Express 6/2/11
Every week we hop in the old minivan to visit our relatives in San Antonio and Dallas for their local music recommendations. Keeping us plugged into the music scenes on either side of I-35 are our brothers from other mothers, San Antonio Express-News music critic Hector Saldana, and KXT 91.7 music host Paul Slavens.
The TTE spent Memorial Day in beautiful Port A, soaking up some rays and jamming new tunes from up S.A. way. We knew we were in for a treat when Hector Saldana rolled up to our bonfire with an album from the band De Los Meurtos. Hector tells us these guys are a real garage rock band with a Tex-Mex flavor. Hector knows how to say it better than we do.
That sea air really did a number to our REAL wood paneling!
HECTOR SALDANA’S PICK OF THE WEEK
We were a little reluctant to invite our Dallas sibling to the beach because he always complains about getting sand in his loafers, but he totally made up for it with the perfect music for our sleepy mornings at the beach. Tiger Darrow is a teenager from Dallas’s Booker T. Washington High School for Performing an Visual Arts with two full length albums to her name. She recorded her new album You Know Who You Are at her home. Paul Slavens warns her music might not be for everyone, but if the packed shows in North Texas clubs are any indication, Tiger Darrow is finding plenty of new fans. Count us in!
