There’s something incredibly striking about the style of Austin band The Eastern Sea. Their music combines elements of pop, indie and prog rock. They continue to master their application of different layers and nuances in their songs that build up into vast, impressive pieces of imagery, resulting in this huge, oftentimes breathtaking sound.

The band started as a solo project in 2005, during a sort of experimental period for songwriter Matt Hines. After exploring different music styles and going through various lineup changes, Hines discovered the direction he wanted to take.

You can check out The Eastern Sea at their show tonight at the Cactus Cafe, located in the Texas Union building on the UT campus. Opening the show is Denton band Sundress. Doors open at 8 p.m. Highly recommended double-bill.
