Austin’s Suzanna Choffel has only two full-length albums to her credit, but she’s already become a staple of the local singer/songwriter scene. Her 2006 release, Shudders and Rings, was a more jazz-inflected record, with Choffel herself describing her sophomore effort, Steady Eye, Shaky Bow as indie-soul-pop.
She enlisted the services of unsung Texas producing hero Danny Reisch (who’s work with White Denim and The Bright Light Social Hour among many others garnered him an Austin Music Award for Producer of the Year) along with many standout local musicians to create the bluesy, smoky texture of the record.
Steady Eye, Shaky Bow was released in late May, and after giving it a listen, Statesman music writer Michael Corcoran speculates that with this record, “Choffel is poised to finally make good on her potential as a national breakout artist.”
“Guardians” does not appear on the latest release. In fact, it doesn’t appear on a release of Choffel’s at all…yet. She performed this brand new, unreleased track for exclusively for KUT just a few weeks ago.
