Singer-songwriters are nothing new in Austin, but then again Rod Picott isn’t your average songwriter. The former sheetrock hanger form South Berwick, Maine has become one of the finest pens in Nashville after years of chasing his music around the country. After moving to Nashville in 1994 Picott hosted his weekly Fireside Whiskey Hour before he was asked to join Alison Krauss and Union Station for the western leg of their 1997 tour. In 2001 his song “Broke Down” hit the Americana music charts after local songwriter Slaid Cleaves recorded it on his hit album of the same name. Since then Rod Picott has continued to impress critics and other songwriters like Fred Eaglesmith and Ray Wylie Hubbard who have also recoded his songs. Rod Picott will be playing Sunday June 26th at Flipnotics coffee house. If you can’t make it out be sure to tune into Rod’s live performance in KUT’s Studio 1a RIGHT HERE!
