When you hear the names Peter, Bjorn and John, you can’t help but think of the catchy whistling melody of their hit song “Young Folks” (click on this link, if you dare – the song will be stuck in your head for the better part of the day, guaranteed). But beyond the monster hit single, their 2006 release Writer’s Block was a complete album, and set the trio up for success in their native Sweden and here in the States. Accordingly, the band followed the release up with a strange, ethereal, instrumental album, while their throngs of fans screamed for more whistling.

With the orchestral bug out of their system, PB&J has released a couple of straight ahead indie-pop records over the past couple of years – Living Thing in 2009 and Gimme Some earlier this year. The latter is something of a return to the band’s 2006 form; standout track “Eyes” has a sunny, summer vibe. Pitchfork noted the tune’s “pleasant, clappy shuffle” and “catchy, Spanish-inflected guitar line, trilling and pinched, that dissolves into a fuzzy solo for the song’s final minute.” This version of “Eyes” was recorded live in KUT’s Studio 1A while the band was in town last week.
