Group Challenges Abortion Sonogram Law

An abortion rights group has filed a lawsuit challenging a new Texas law on abortions.  Starting in September doctors will be required to conduct a sonogram and describe it to a woman before she gets an abortion.

The Center for Reproductive Rights claims the law violates the First Amendment rights of the doctor and the patient and discriminates against women. Supporters of the new law say it will help women make a more informed decision.

Online Summer Safety for Children

Scorching temperatures and no rain are sure signs it’s summertime in Austin. Kids are out of school and those who aren’t in another structured environment, are spending a lot more time at home—alone.  Many are spending that time online. On today’s newspod, Gretch Sanders reports on some summer safety tips for parents.

Last Day to Vote Early in City Runoff

Tuesday is the last day to cast an early ballot in the Austin City Council runoff election for Place Three. On the ballot: incumbent Randi Shade and challenger Kathie Tovo. So far, 4.77 percent of registered voters in Travis County have cast a ballot.
