Everybody knows Austin is a guitar town. Most think of blues guitar like Stevie Ray or straight ahead rock riffs a la Alejandro Escovedo. If you just left it there you might miss out on one of Austin’s greatest new guitarists. Jacob Wise grew up in Austin as the city was defining itself as a music mecca and absorbed the music that surrounded him. After graduating from UT Jacob took his love for music to the Jazz program at University of North Texas in Denton. While earning his masters degree Jacob became a music teacher himself piloting the Super 400 guitar ensemble and teaching private lessons. Wise plays a variety of styles but feels at home playing his traditional jazz arrangements in some of Austin’s more intimate clubs.
