Indie duo Gold Beach began as an experiment by two young songwriters, Tony Daugherty and Michael Winningham, at Tony’s parents house in Houston. At fourteen years old, they were dreaming up song ideas and recording them in their makeshift home studio.

Fast forward seventeen years later. They had this seemingly endless collection of recordings -  unusual but cohesive pieces that, collectively, formed a rather intriguing, vivid personality . Eleven of those tracks can be found on Habibti, their 2011 official debut release.

Gold Beach has since gotten attention for their performances at SXSW, and were invited to do a Daytrotter session. They’ve also pooled together a remarkable group of local musicians for live shows, including Jeremy Gomez (Mineral, The Glass Family), Carlos Orozco (Western Keys, Black Drum Set), Nicole Kern (Balmorhea), Evan Jacobs (Tacks! the Boy Disaster, Polyphonic Spree), Andy Sharp (Girling), and Henna Chou (My Education).

Gold Beach has a show Thursday night at The Continental Club, 1315 S. Congress. This is one of those triple bills that I, your Austin Music Minute maven Laurie Gallardo, just drool over: Gold Beach, Oh No Oh My and One Hundred Flowers. Doors open at 9 p.m. Get there early and see them all. Recommended.
