StoryboardAustin, What We're Watching

What We’re Watching

We love this beautiful portrait of the artist Amy Harlib, who continues to charm and amaze audiences with her performances that mix dance and contortion with music and humor. She does this at the age of 56 even with a disintegrated disc in her spine, two torn rotator cuffs, a hip replacement and bursitis in her left knee.

The documentary is wonderful on its own, but the behind-the-scenes peak into the production process afforded to us by MediaStorm is something that we here at Storyboard Austin really love. MediaStorm included “A Conversation with Amy Harlib,” where two producers Tim McLaughlin and Jennifer Redfearn, sit down and watch the video with Amy and ask for her feedback.

It’s not often that you are allowed such a raw look into not only what makes an artist, but what makes an artist’s portrait. You can feel the hesitation of the producers as they ask Amy if she thinks the piece is honest and fair. No matter what critical acclaim a producer is given for their work, what should matter most is how honestly they portray their subjects. With the addition of “A Conversation with Amy Harlib” to the portrait piece, we see that the producers at MediaStorm take this responsibility to heart.

We hope you enjoy The Amazing Amy by MediaStorm.

Using humor and a love of fantasy, “The Amazing Amy” Harlib connects with audiences through performing strenuous yoga-based contortion acts in New York City. See the project at http://mediastorm.com/training/the-amazing-amy
