Violet Crown Review

Trans-Texas Express May 5th

Every week we hop in the old minivan to visit our relatives in San Antonio and Dallas for their local music recommendations. Keeping us plugged into the music scenes on either side of I-35 are our brothers from other mothers, San Antonio Express-News music critic Hector Saldana, and KXT 91.7 music host Paul Slavens.

SAN ANTONIO

This week our intrepid man in the field, Hector Saldana, shows us the two sides of San Antonio’s singing salesman Rick Cavender. A quick search of the web will tell you Rick Cavender runs a succesful car dealership in San Antonio but if you scroll a bit further you might just run into Rick Cavender the country musician. Hector says Cavender has put out four full length albums and is as at home playing in San Antonio’s clubs as he is on the showroom floor.

PRESS PLAY to hear Hector Saldana’s pick this week.

DALLAS

Paul Slavens is North Texas’s professional music listener and this week he picked Novaak for our road trip into Dallas. The boy/girl duo pairs synths with bright lyrics for an unrepentant pop sound. Their first album was recorded in their home studio with some very pleasing results.

LISTEN to Paul Slaven tell us why Novaak is his pick for the week.
