This is something that I, your Austin Music Minute maven Laurie Gallardo, have become absolutely smitten with.
Steady Eye, Shaky Bow, the second album by songwriter Suzanna Choffel, won my heart on the first listen. I first got a sneak preview of it when KUT’s Kevin Conner played the track “Animal” one Saturday afternoon. In some ways, this perfect little gem of an album, produced by mix-master extraordinaire Danny Reisch (he’s got albums by White Denim, Bright Light Social Hour, and The Boxing Lesson to his credit) may have been long overdue, but it’s been well worth the wait. Refined, delicate, melodic and throwing curves here and there, the music combines elements of jazz and indie pop, the perfect pairing with Choffel’s distinctive vocals.
Choffel has a big Memorial Day Weekend show coming up Saturday night at One World Theater, 7701 Bee Caves Rd. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. This one comes highly recommended.
