Os Alquimistas started out as a simple collaboration back in 2009. Frederico Geib and Michael Longoria were brought together by a mutual interest in Brazilian music. However, it’s evolved into something more than that.

The band, consisting of musicians from different cultural backgrounds who are influenced by a wide range of music styles, creates a bold hybrid of Brazilian and funk. And there’s room for just about everything thrown into the mix: Soul, jazz, reggae, rock, Tropicalia – multiple combinations and endless possibilities.

Os Alquimistas has played at several festivals, including SXSW, ACL, and the San Jose Jazz Festival among others, and should be releasing their debut album, Ancestrais, this summer.

Catch Os Alquimistas at their show Friday night at Flamingo Cantina, 515 E. 6th St. The show starts at 10 p.m., and be sure to stick around for more dancing and fabulous Cuban, Columbian and reggae rhythms with Huerta Culture. Recommended.
