May 6, 2011 – This Week in Membership
Events, events, events and events! Kim, Kayla and I have been working lots of events throughout the past week. On Friday night we hosted The Flatlanders in KLRU’s Original ACL Studio. They sounded great and seemed to enjoy themselves. The audience had fun drinking beer, cranberry juice and vodka, and cookies. They also listened to great music! Right now in my office, I have menus signed by Jimmie Dale, Joe and Butch! They signed what they wanted from the restaurant that we use to bring them food. If you didn’t get to hear The Flatlanders, or want to relive the magic, KUT will be broadcasting the show on Monday, May 30, around 8 p.m. To see pictures from the event, click here.
On Saturday night, Kayla attending the sound check party for The Decemberists. KUT, and other Austin radio stations, gave away passes to see the sound check. Kayla was the KUT person on hand to greet the KUT winners. She really enjoyed her night. It was like having a private concert for her and about 25 other people.
On Wednesday, about 10 people came to KUT to see Steve Earle do his live set in Studio 1A. I, personally, really enjoyed the performance. After the mini-concert (perhaps you caught the performance on Thursday at 2 p.m.?), we went on a tour of the station. The picture above is some of the volunteers learning about the magic of radio from Bob Branson. We finished the afternoon by looking at the construction site for the new KUT.
On Wednesday evening, Kim, Kayla and I worked an Underwriter Appreciation Party at the Visual Arts Center on the UT campus. It was a really fun event with a lot of, “Oh, it is so good to see you!,” being heard throughout the gallery.
And, on Thursday we rested. Unfortunately, that isn’t true. We got caught up from all of the previous work that might have gone undone because of the events.
Finally, for those of you keeping track, I have cleaned out my office. I only have two boxes in here instead of 8. I did a lot of consolidation.
