Voter ID Bill One Step Closer to Becoming Law

A highly-debated Voter ID bill is headed to Governor Rick Perry’s desk.  The Texas House voted Monday to approve a final version of the bill that had been in a conference committee of Republicans and Democrats.  The voter ID measure would require voters to show photo identification before casting a ballot at the polls.

Republican lawmakers say the bill would prevent voter fraud.  Democrats say it would disenfranchise poor and minority voters.  Governor Perry is expected to sign the bill which he designated emergency legislation this session.
