AISD To Discuss Facility Master Plan
The Austin Independent School District’s Board is meeting Monday night to discuss its Facility Master Plan. The plan is a ten year roadmap for AISD to manage its campuses and other buildings to be more efficient and to save money.
The most controversial part of the plan is a recommendation that calls for AISD to close nine schools. Superintendent Meria Carstarphen has vowed not to close any campuses before 2013. Tonight’s board discussion starts at six. No action will be taken.
Tovo, Shade Gearing Up for Runoff
The hotly contested race for Austin City Council Place Three is headed for a runoff. Challenger Kathy Tovo walked away with about 47 percent of the vote after Saturday’s election but she didn’t manage to crack the fifty percent needed to win. Incumbent Randi Shade got 33 percent of the vote. On today’s Newspod, KUT’s Mose Buchele reports on what’s next.
Austin Under Watering Restrictions
It may have rained in Austin last week but don’t forget stage 1 water restrictions are in effect. That means homeowners can only water their lawns twice a week. Those with odd addresses can water on Wednesdays and/or Saturdays, people with even addresses are allowed to water on Thursdays and/or Sundays. Sprinklers can’t be used between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Those caught breaking the rules could face a fine of up to $500.
