Dallas native Edie Birckell got her start in the music business with an impromptu performance at a Dallas night club with local rock group New Bohemians. The surprise performance turned into a full time gig and the New Bohemians went on to become one of the most popular groups in the late 80s. Their debut album Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars with the smash hit “Who I Am” brought them considerable commercial success but the band struggled to maintain the momentum and broke up shortly after the release of their 2nd album Ghost of a Dog released in 1990.
Edie Brickell spent the better part of the 90s with her family and only released a few solo albums including one with her stepson Harper Simon (son of Paul Simon). Brickell is currently touring behind her new self-titled album and stopped by KUT’s Studio 1a to play a few songs for host Jay Trachtenberg . Enjoy Edie Brickell in Studio 1a!
