There is no mistaking the sweet inflections Dana Falconberry. The Austin-based songwriter blew people away with her fantastic 2006 debut, Paper Sailboat, and with the captivating harmonies of her slightly more contemplative 2010 album, Hallets, which featured re-recordings of previously released songs and simpler arrangements that called more attention to Falconberry’s vocals.
If you’ve never seen Falconberry perform, here’s something that should give you an idea: Visit the website for the documentary film Echotone, and click on the B-Sides section; scroll down and you’ll find a video of Falconberry singing “Possum Song” – acoustic, crystal clear and radiant.
Of course, the best way to go is taking in an actual live performance, and you have an opportunity to do so this evening, but don’t put it off – this is Falconberry’s last gig before she leaves Austin for three months. Accompanied by her band, Falconberry will play tonight at Stubb’s indoor venue, 801 Red River. And heads up: This happens to be another killer triple bill with two other local favorites of mine, Some Say Leland (Dan Grissom at the helm) and The Lovely Sparrows (with songwriter and frontman Shawn Jones). Word is that Falconberry will be joining the Sparrows to provide percussion – don’t miss out. Doors open at 8 p.m. Recommended.
