Trans-Texas Express 4/21/11
Every week we hop in the old minivan to visit our relatives in San Antonio and Dallas for their local music recommendations. Keeping us plugged into the music scenes on either side of I-35 are our brothers from other mothers, San Antonio Express-News music critic Hector Saldana, and KXT 91.7 music host Paul Slavens.
This week our man Hector tells us about the Grammy winning Tejano artist Sunny Sauceda and his newest album Homenaje a mi Padre. Hector says the new album pays tribute to the songs that Sunny’s father Mario Sauceda penned more than two decades ago. Listen to Hector tell us why Sunny Sauceda is his pick of the week.
Paul Slavens is our point man for new music coming out of North Texas and this week he turns us onto Denton band Shiny Around the Edges. He says their sound is almost impossible to pin down because their songs range from “brutal to whisper soft”. Hear Paul Slavens tell us why Shiny Around the Edges got his vote this week.
