I first saw The Raveonettes play a few years ago during SXSW. I have witnesses who can testify that words failed me (for the first time ever) because I was that blown away.
The Danish duo is currently on tour in support of their latest full-length, Raven In the Grave. They cut back just a tad on the fuzzy guitar compared to previous albums, but they remain committed to redefining the classic rock sound influenced by Buddy Holly. Theirs is the kind of indie rock that’s dark but not necessarily gloomy, just cutting the perfect sharp edge. And Raven In the Grave takes it to another level. In the words of bassist Sharin Foo: “It’s the perfect winter soundtrack, just in time for spring.”
The Raveonettes will be in Austin for a show Tuesday night at Emo’s, 603 Red River. Opening the show are San Francisco-based dark-psych band Tamaryn, and Austin psych-rockers Shapes Have Fangs. Doors open at 9 p.m. Dreaminess throughout the night. Highly recommended.
