Hot Tracks is an analogue and digital recording studio located in East Austin, run by producer and engineer Matthew Smith. The list of bands Smith has worked with is an impressive who’s-who of the local scene, including Golden Bear, The Laughing, Leatherbag, Moth!Fight!, and Ola Podrida, to name a few.

Smith has more than a decades’ worth of experience in his field, and his goal as an engineer was to provide an environment for musicians that fosters creative energy. Hot Tracks was his vision brought to life.

Recently, the city condemned the building that the studio is located in. This means Hot Tracks is in need of a new home – ASAP. Needless to say, the move will be a tremendous one. But several of the bands who have recorded their albums in Smith’s studio are rallying together to help make the move an easier one.

The Save Hot Tracks benefit show, happening Friday at Club DeVille, 900 Red River, will feature performances by Hot Tracks alumni Danny Malone, Leatherbag, The Eastern Sea, The Great Nostalgic, Wiretree, The Pons, David Wingo (Ola Podrida), My Education, Corrina Corrina, and The Gary. There will be an art auction, and a special tap dance/ukulele hoke’em presentation courtesy of Jordan Moser and Lex Land. You cannot resist.

Check it out. It’s an early show. Doors open at 5 p.m., and proceeds go toward the studio relocation. This one comes recommended.
