Portrait of an Artist: Michael Behrman
photo by Rebecca McInroyAustin based artist Michael Behrman, aka The Mysterious H, blends the new with the nostalgic, especially if you grew up playing video games in the 80s. In 2006 Behrman decided to compete in the first Austin Museum of Digital Art Laptop Battle but found the traditional performance style, of what he refers to as “checking your email on stage,” too restrictive. Michael decided to break through these confines by adapting his two octave keyboard so he could move around stage and even jump into cheering crowds. Although he didn’t win the competition, he did invent a new performance style that is helping to create The Legend of The Mysterious H.
