Papercuts, a band based in San Francisco, gave an excellent performance at one of KUT’s daytime showcases at the Hilton during SXSW. Outstanding.

The principal songwriter, vocalist Jason Robert Quever, has a way with subtlety and delicate touches in his music that makes it very pure dream pop. It’s the vibe found throughout Papercuts’ fourth full-length, Fading Parade. There’s definitely a shoegaze element within, but not as heavy. Quever takes a less aggressive route, yet there’s no shortage of up-tempo rhythms and big, rich sound – a totally multi-faceted experience.

Don’t miss Papercuts at their show Tuesday night at Emo’s, 603 Red River, on the indoor stage. Opening the show is the UK’s Banjo Or Freakout. Doors open at 9 p.m. Recommended.
