Okkervil River Debuts New Album at Cactus Cafe

Two weeks before its official release in the U.S., Okkervil River took a break from its tour with Arcade Fire to debut the new songs on the band’s forthcoming release “I Am Very Far”. In an extraordinary setting in the band’s hometown of Austin, TX—the legendary Cactus Cafe—main songwriter Will Sheff led the band through an entire album’s worth of material. The event was part of NPR Music’s “First Listen” series. The new material was highly influenced by the band’s recent time spent with psychedelic rock pioneer Roky Erikson, whose partnership resulted in one of 2010’s most highly acclaimed collaborations “True Love Cast Out All Evil”. Sheff has said that the new songs on “I Am Very Far” carry a kind of chaotic energy, which he attributes to his time spent working with Erikson. More than 100 people were in attendance at the Cactus for this global live webcast: a first in the venue’s history.

This, my friends, just might be the best thing ever.
I love it….can’t wait to see you in Denver this June!
Thank you so much, my friend won tickets, the show was amazing! I don’t think Okkervil is “on tour” with Arcade Fire, they are only opening one show in Dallas on April 30th. Thanks, again!
