Hello, rock ‘n’ roll. Long time, no hang.

That’s being said with all sincerity. It’s a refreshing thing to have a band like Austin-quartet Moonlight Towers bring the rock to the table. Countless critics have praised them for their power pop prowess, and that’s a perfectly fair analysis of all the solid, contagious riffs, hooks and rhythms that you can find in their 2002 self-titled debut and their second full-length Like You Were Never There (2005). You’ll undoubtedly find their upcoming release Day Is the New Night quite melodic and poppy, but don’t dismiss the heaping, generous doses of guitar. This is some straight-up rock ‘n’ roll at its finest.

Don’t forget that Moonlight Towers has a CD release party coming up Saturday night at Antone’s, 213 W. 5th St. This is a killer bill with Leatherbag (cheers to you, Randy Reynolds) opening the show, followed by fellow Austin pop-rockers Grand Champeen. Doors open at 9 p.m., and the show starts at 10 p.m. Don’t miss out. Recommended.
