The House Approves a Redistricting Plan
Early this morning the Texas House approved a new political redistricting plan. The debate over the map lasted nearly 16 hours and ended with district lines that all but guarantee a continued Republican majority. The plan redrew districts that will pit some Republicans against each other. The new map must go through one more procedural step before it can head over to the Senate for approval.
City Council Could Vote on Creating Single-Member Districts
Austin’s City Council could take steps today that would reshape its own composition. Council members will vote on the drafting of charter amendments to create single-member districts that would go before voters in 2012. In today’s newspod, KUT’s Mose Buchele reports on the proposal. The NFL Draft Begins Tonight
Some college football players will become pro football players tonight, as the National Football League holds its annual draft. Some draft forecasters say corner-back Aaron Williams has the best chance to be the first Texas Longhorn drafted this year. He could go late in the first round or early in the second round of the three-day draft held in New York City.
