AISD Budget Hearing Monday

People will have their say Monday night on the Austin Independent School District’s budget for 2011-2012.  AISD is holding a public hearing at around 7 p.m. on its $690 million budget. The district has made several budget cuts including eliminating more than 1,000 positions.

Texas Wildfire Update

The Texas Forest Service says it responded to 17 new wildfires Saturday.  208 of Texas’s 254 counties are now under burn bans. The fires burning west of Fort Worth are now 50 percent contained, and the fire burning in the Fort Davis area is now 75 percent contained.

How Will State Budget Cuts Affect Austin Jobs?

The Texas Senate could vote on its version of the state budget this week.  It spends billions more than the House version. While the House and the Senate appear to be headed for a showdown over spending, the City of Austin is trying to forecast what the looming cuts will mean for its own economy.
